The Kongsfjord vessel has undergone a significant transformation by adding a complete shrimp processing factory onto the existing factory deck. The upgrade has proven to be a success, thanks to the strong partnership between Carsoe and the Lerøy Havfisk crew.
Originally designed as a fish factory, the Kongsfjord vessel now also includes a state-of-the-art shrimp processing line.
The new processing design from Carsoe maximizes the use of space in the factory deck and utilizes several elements and conveyors from the existing fish factory.
"Due to reduced fish quotas, it is important to have a flexible production line", Stein Oksnes, Technical Director at Lerøy Havfisk explains and continues: "After the new shrimp factory installation, the vessel can produce both industrial and boiled shrimps, which will increase the value of the catch."
This factory upgrade means a high degree of flexibility of usage and a high utilization of the vessel for different seasons and different types of products.
The installation of a complete factory on an existing vessel is no small task. The tight quarters on the vessel require careful planning and expertise to fit the large components of the new shrimp processing line.
The experienced installation engineers from Carsoe, worked closely with the Lerøy Havfisk crew and additional subcontractors to ensure that the project was finished on time.
Stein Oksnes elaborates: "The shrimp factory installation was finished just before Christmas on a Norwegian shipyard. As always, when adding a shrimp line to an existing fish factory, there are challenges during the installation."
"After some minor adjustments on the first fishing trip, the factory is now working very well and we are very satisfied with our new shrimp factory installation.”
